#1. Alice in Wonderland – $1,025,467,110
Topping this list is a film that I feel represents much of what is wrong with Hollywood today. When a certain style is hot at the box office, you can be full sure that about five a year will then be churned out with little or no quality. The latest trend seems to be that of updating original fairy-tales into big-budget adaptations that more often than not, stray from their source material. Breaking the billion-dollar mark by riding the wave of Avatar’s 3D success, Alice in Wonderland remains Tim Burton’s most successful film, although possibly one of his worst. If you’re looking for a prime example of a film that defines style over substance, this is the movie for you. It’s amazing what a little colourful marketing along with a star leading actor can do for your box office success.
So do you agree with my ramblings or feel that I have left out an obvious over-achiever?
